Ardeo Theatre Project is an association of theatre artists, students and scholars based at the Château de St. Julien near Poitiers, France. The central elements of our project are the Ardeo Theatre Company, its accredited study-abroad programs, and our unique community. At the heart of the Project is the Ardeo Theatre Company, a group of professional actors, directors, designers and writers who have come to France to create both an ensemble theatre company and a body of original work. Our style is shaped by improvisational techniques and modern movement studies which we apply to a wide range of material, including contemporary and classical texts, myths, found literature and personal experience. Our productions (performed in English) tour locally and internationally. We offer fully accredited study abroad programs in Ensemble Theatre Training and French Studies. Both programs combine intensive training and study with the opportunity to share in the creative life of the château community. The theatre program gives students the chance to work closely with the resident professional actors, while the French program emphasizes language and translation skills within an artistic, cross-cultural environment. Programs are open to qualified college students as well as early career professionals. The Ardeo Theatre Project was founded on the belief that creativity thrives in community, and that artists (and their audiences) can benefit by looking outside their own culture for inspiration and a fresh perspective. Our home in France is the base for our creative work. Here artists, educators, artisans, guests, French residents, students and family members converge in the kitchen, wander under the sycamore trees, and gather in the theatre to invent and surprise. we offer a heartfelt merci!
