A new step for Antofagasta: Discipleship classes

Since the beginning of our church plant, we have been praying for our future leaders knowing that God had already picked out each person for our church. Over the past 2 months we have seen that prayer come to fruition, and in many ways has renewed our hopes in the future of Puerta Abierta Antofagasta. We had ten people take part in the Encounter. Seven of those ten are still in line for leadership after our post-Encounter classes. Heyner, who has been teaching the classes, says, “They are encouraged, even though not all of them were in the last class. They have been really motivated to participate in the church and learn more.” Marcos and Liz Febe have already started opening up their home to host discipleship classes, meanwhile others have started participating in more events and social activities. The new leaders are participating in church activities beyond just attending Sunday service, and we’re excited that it’s coming from a place of real interest. “We have a great group of leaders,” says Heyner, “I believe that they have interest in participating, if we orient them well now we will have a great future. Also, the leaders that we are forming have a heart to serve, and a passion for God. I have a desire that they will be leaders managing our ministries in the near future, but we need to pray that God shows them the direction to take.” Every Sunday we see more and more of that desire of outreach. We have been waiting for this since the beginning of our work, knowing that God has control of who will take over what ministry.

Most of our leaders are curious about how a church actually functions. We don't have many doubts about this group, they always ask questions, and it is amazing how much success we have had in such a short time. We understand that some may not continue with leadership, but we hope the majority will. Heyner will begin teaching from the first book of our discipleship materials, “The Master's Plan” the 22nd of November. We hope our newly formed leaders will be able to help with our next Encounter which is scheduled for the end of January.  “The good thing is that the church is growing, not only in foreigners but also with locals. And our expectation is that we will have more Chileans in our next Encounter.” says Heyner. Many have already talked to contacts about the next one, others sharing their testimony of the experience, but the message overall - God will change your life in this weekend and you don't want to miss it!
