Humbly Standing Firm
In his letter to the church in Corinth, Paul says, “therefore my brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain” (chapter 15 and verse 58 NIV). If I ever need to point to someone that lives this verse daily, I will point directly to Krista Kellerer, medical coordinator with Extreme in Quito, Ecuador. I don’t think I have ever met anyone that can humbly stand firm in her God-given convictions more than Krista. She simply will not be moved when she knows what God wants from her. She is the reason that about 100 people saw doctors, nurses, dentists, counselors, and pastors; and received all kinds of physical, emotional and spiritual help today.
She has been dreaming about today’s clinic (in her home away from home) since before she ever arrived to Quito about 18 months ago. And no amount of hospital visits, short-term teams (both medical and non-medical), insurance paper work, research, proposal writing and other various projects could move her from making this dream come to fruition today.
I tried to compliment Krista on a job well done today, but she kept saying things like “it wasn’t just me” and “it was a team effort” and she was right. It took help from outside our church, local leadership in our church, several members of our Quito admin team and our Manta team trainees to make the event happen. BUT, without Krista giving herself fully to the work of the Lord none of today’s event would have happened.
So again, thank you Krista for standing firm, refusing to give up on this dream and giving yourself fully to the work of the Lord. Today we were able to: give medical care to those that could not have afforded it, counseled people who desperately needed it and introduced people to the love of our Savior. All the while, forging a great partnership with medical professionals in Quito, the Carcelen Church of the Nazarene and Extreme Nazarene. Not to mention, reminding all of our admin team about putting our love for Christ into action and giving a great example to our Manta team that is in training. Well done, Krista! Your work is not in vain.
