Ibarra Saturday: Soccer...I Mean Futból!
The short term team in Ibarra began their Saturday with prayer at the church from 5am-6am focusing on the youth of the church and the future of the youth ministry. It was a powerful time of connecting with God.
The morning through the mid-afternoon was spent at a rented artificial turf soccer court. There were seven teams guys teams and two girls teams. The two girls teams consisted primarily of the short-term missionaries. One of the seven guys teams was exclusively guys from the short-term team. The goal of the tournament was to invite people to participate in the teams and get some exposure to the people of the church. It was well attended.
After a short period of down time, the group attended the youth service at the church where 40/40 Michaela Rimmer shared the message. The day was capped off by having dinner at the foodcourt of the mall.
Erinn Proehl, Olivet Nazarene University MIA team leader said, "During our time of debriefing the team shared of the encounters with God so far. It was a powerful moment--Christ is moving! One student shared "I guess I realize how intimate I can be with God. I can be so much more intentional."
It is evident that the students are a huge blessing to the church-planting missionaries on the ground. Things are going smoothly. The team is healthy and no one has missed any of the activities due to sickness. Pray that this trend continues.
