Ibarra Wednesday: Exploring on the Day Off

Wednesday, May 20th, was the day off for the short-term team.  We took an opportunity to visit the city of Otavalo, a mountain city about 30 minutes south of Ibarra. We spent the morning and early afternoon exploring the traditional market there, and allowing the team time to do some souvenir shopping for some local artisan fare.  They found alpaca sweaters, blankets, hats, and scarves, along with soccer jerseys, paintings, and many other treasures.

We enjoyed lunch on the third floor of a building just off the market, which included an amazing view of the mountains. The afternoon was spent exploring a waterfall near the city.

Finally, on our way back to the hotel in Ibarra, we stopped at a neighborhood of the city called San Antonio, which is known for its items carved from wood.  We capped the day off by having a meal at the mall food court.  It was a great day and a good time was had by all.
